Bernard V. Payne, 97, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at the Washington County Hospital surrounded by family after a short battle with pneumonia. Celebration of life services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Ben Blanchard and Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Interment with military honors will be held in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A memorial has been established for Lending Hands. He is survived by his son, Randy Payne and wife Darlene of Washington; daughter, Rose Furgason and husband Rodney of Washington; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother-in-law, Rev. Willis Longer and wife Verla of Monticello.
