Bernard Lee McGrew, 80, of Lexington, Ky., died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Springville Cemetery, Springville, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, Iowa, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bernard was born Dec. 10, 1941, in Springville, Iowa, the son of Merle W. and Edith Harriett (Jacobs) McGrew. He graduated from Springville Senior High School and earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University. Bernard was united in marriage to Jill L. Emmons in Springville, Iowa, in 1963.
Bernie worked as an engineer for Link-Belt Construction/FMC until his retirement on July 1, 2003. He was proud of his work in improving safety regulations for the Department of Labor and OSHA.
Bernie loved sailing, a passion he shared with his daughter and golf, which he enjoyed with his son and the golf buddies who kept him young. He also loved cars and car racing, hobbies that he shared with his grandchildren. Bernie’s spirit and wisdom will be carried on in all those who loved him and will be passed down for generations.
Bernie is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jill McGrew of Lexington, Ky.; children, Amy Jacobs of Livonia, N.Y., and Matthew (Katarzyna) McGrew of Mount Prospect, Ill.; six grandchildren, Alex Lee Siegling, Massima Bell, Benjamin Robert Jacobs, Remi Lee McGrew, Mila Zofia McGrew and Penelope Louise McGrew; brother, Allen McGrew of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and sister, Sandra Mueller of Forest Grove, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Harriett McGrew.
