Bernard Fay Evers, 90, of Coggon, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the funeral home. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, rural Coggon. Military honors will be provided by the Floyd Williamson American Legion Post 712 of Troy Mills.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Maxine; children, Gary (Darlene) Evers of Lake Charles, La., Gail (Randy) Blackburn of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Harry (Karen) Evers of Walker; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori Hardy; four sisters; and a brother.
Bernard was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Iron Mountain, Mich., the son of Clarence and Lois (Fay) Evers. He graduated from Troy Mills High School in 1944. Bernard was in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1947 and was stationed in Germany during World War II. On June 6, 1946, he married Maxine Mae Parson at the Methodist Church in Troy Mills.
Bernard was a farmer for 20 years and also worked at Collins Radio. Bernard enjoyed gardening, yard work and was a longtime member of the Floyd Williamson American Legion Post 712 of Troy Mills.
