Bernadine Katherine Walter, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died in her home on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Burial: Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Edward J. Walter; her children, Patrick (Julia) Walter of Chicago, Barbara (Sabin) Colton of Wheeling, W.V., Mark (Kimbra) Walter of Chicago and Mary (Jeff) Walter of Chicago; her half siblings, Rosemary Downs of Swisher and Tom Spaight of North Carolina; her grandchildren, Nicole Walter, Jill (Jeremy) Beutow, Jessica Colton, Worth Colton and Samantha Walter; and her great-grandchildren, Taylor Walter, Miley Beutow and Liam Beutow.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Theresa Hestwood and Rita Pappenfus.
Bernadine was born March 22, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Ida Spaight. She married Edward J. Walter on July 10, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Bernadine was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church where she was active with Foresters and many other groups in the church. She was very devoted to her faith. Bernadine was a humble and generous person who lived a full and simple life. She truly lived her faith, giving unconditional love and time to helping people.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Schmid and Dr. Suneja for their extraordinary care over many years.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
