Bernadette F. Trenkamp, 76, of Maynard, died suddenly Thursday morning, May 29, 2014, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with the Rev. Paul C. McManus and Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein. Rosary: 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Maynard American Legion Auxiliary Service: 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Parish Scripture service: 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Dyersville.
Memorials may be given in her name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein or the Maynard Public Library.

Bernadette Frances Jasper was born Sept. 10, 1937, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Esther (Greif) Jasper. She graduated from Hopkinton High School and received her L.P.N. training at Mercy School of Nursing in Marshalltown. Bernadette was united in marriage to Raymond Paul Trenkamp on June 4, 1959, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Hopkinton, Iowa. They moved to Arlington for a short time and then later moved to Maynard in 1959.
Bernadette worked at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for two years and then at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein for 45 years, retiring in 2005. Bernadette was a member of
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein and the Maynard American Legion Auxiliary. She was formerly a member of the West Central School board and the Fayette County Tourism Council. Bernadette
enjoyed cooking, traveling, reading newspapers, canning vegetables, hosting
relatives for dinner, camping and blowing bubbles with her grandchildren.
Bernadette is survived by her four sons, Marc (Laure) Trenkamp of Oelwein, Michael Trenkamp of Maynard, Mitchell Trenkamp of Maynard and Matthew (Angela) Trenkamp of Dyersville; two granddaughters: Elizabeth and Anna Trenkamp of Dyersville; brother-in-law, John Turnis of Edgewood; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Jasper of Hopkinton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 54 years, Raymond, on May 23, 2014; brother, Lawrence "Larry" Jasper; two sisters, Mary Ann Turnis and Elizabeth "Betty" Leibold; brother-in-law, Emil Leibold; and a nephew, David Turnis.
