BERNADETTE MARIE HAHN
9/15/1949 – 3/12/2015
Cedar Rapids
Bernadette was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., on Sept. 15, 1949, and passed away March 12, 2015, at age 65 at Meadowview Memory Care in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from Alzheimer's disease. Until she needed additional care, Bernadette lived in Hillsboro, Ore. Bernadette attended Regina High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After graduating from Regina, Bernadette went on to Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., where she received a B.A. in history. After graduating, she went on to get her law degree from Creighton University as one of only a few women who attended law school at that time.
She applied her degree working in contracts administration for Rockwell Collins. She then took a position overseeing the construction of the law school library for Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. After the completion of the law library, she moved to the Portland, Ore., area and worked for Tektronix.
Bernadette was very active in her church in every community in which she lived. In Hillsboro, she was an avid hiker. Bernadette enjoyed attending and volunteering at local cultural events. She maintained a love of learning throughout her life and also enjoyed reading, music (especially classical music), gardening, camping and time with her friends.
Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents, William and Beatrice (Hagen) Hahn.
She is survived by three siblings: Kevin Hahn, living in Marion, Iowa, and his two daughters, Noelle Witkop and Danielle Hahn; Kathleen (Hahn) Shankwitz, living in Minneapolis, with her husband, Craig Shankwitz, and their two daughters, Amelia and Merideth Shankwitz; and Kristin (Hahn) Borgman, living in Ada, Mich., with her husband, Mark Borgman, and their two children, Angela and Andrew Borgman.
She will be buried in a private service with her parents at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
