Marilyn J. Berg, 72, of Oxford, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at Briarwood Care Center in Iowa City. There will be a period of visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
Marilyn Joyce Young was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Iowa City, the daughter of Alton and Lois (Paintin) Young. She was united in marriage to Roy L. Berg Jr. on March 23, 1956, in Iowa City. The couple made their home in Oxford, where they raised their family. She was “Mom” in every sense of the word, always there for her children and later grandchildren, never missing any school or sporting events which they were involved in. Marilyn lived and cherished her family. She also was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears and in years past enjoyed crocheting items for her family. For nearly 25 years she was employed at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Her family includes sons, Earl Berg (Amy), Carl Berg and Roy L. Berg III “Lenny”, all of Oxford; daughter, Tina Kilburg (Lynn) of Eldridge; eight grandchildren, Heather Hassett (Ryan), Abbie Hobbick (Deke), Cory Berg (Callie), Jennifer Berg, Serena Levy (Henry), Breanna Kilburg, Brooke Kilburg and Trevor Kilburg; four great-granddaughters, Corrie, Addison, Allie and Carlie; and one sister, Gladys Enlow of Marshalltown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; and brothers, Robert and John Young.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her memory.
