Berends, Robert J.
Robert J. Berends, 77, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, August 9, 2010. Memorial service: 9 a.m. Saturday at Valley View Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Fern of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Robynn (Dean) Kralek of Florida, and Danielle Kohl of Alabama; a special nephew, Ron Berends; stepchildren, Stacy, Stephanie, Samantha, Sara and Scott; his brother, Donald; and sister, Mildred Knowles of Independence.
Robert was born Jan. 31, 1933, the son of Henry and Marie (Meyocks) Berends, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Fern Richards in May 1987. Robert worked in the construction business and was a proud union member of Labor Local 43 for 35 years. Robert loved his three dogs, Mugsy, Sassy and Rowdy.
