Bennett, Kathryn Ann
Kathryn Ann Bennett, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died June 24, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Perry Fruhling officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Don Bennett; her daughters, Ann Squires and husband Brian of Marion and Mary Hatfield and husband Alex of Cedar Rapids; her sister, Reta Saylor and husband Pete of Hiawatha; her grandchildren, Melissa, Jessica, Gavin, Zachary and Raine; her great-grandchildren, Sadie, Allyson and Anthony; niece, Corinne Hunt of Cedar Rapids; stepchildren, David Bennett and wife Teresa of Cedar Rapids, Michael Bennett and wife LuGene of Knoxville and Denise Witte and husband Mark of Marion; and stepgrandchildren, Emily, Jacob, Travis and Ryan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant brother, Donald.
Kathy was born Sept. 12, 1946, in DeWitt, Ark., the daughter of Oren H. and Helen (Spicher) Stone. She graduated with an A.A. degree from Kirkwood Community College. She was employed for 30 years at Rockwell Collins. She was united in marriage to Donald L. Bennett on May 31, 1986, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
She had a life long passion for music and was accomplished in composing music. She shared her passion as a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and the church's Chancel Choir. She also enjoyed sharing music as a member of Corale Midwest. She enjoyed golf and above all time spent with her family.
She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Kathy's honor to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Hospice House of Mercy or the charity of the donor's choosing.
