Bendon, Mabel L.
Mabel L. Bendon, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in her home. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Stasia Fine. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Garbiso of Lompoc, Calif., Glenda (Robert) Denning of Cedar Rapids and Trudy (Dennis) Scott of Lakeland, Fla.
Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph D. Bendon; son, Ronald Bendon; daughter, Joann Frazier; brother, Marion Dunham; and grandson, Douglas Frazier.
Mabel was born June 10, 1915, near Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Ida (Phillips) Dunham. She married Joseph D. Bendon on July 3, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. Mabel retired after working many years for Armstrong's Department Store. She was a charter member of New Disciples Christian Church and was a member of Cedar Christian Church for more than 50 years. She treasured spending time with her friends in the Ellis Y Swim Group, Church Bible study and the American Sewing Guild. In retirement, Mabel and her husband, Joe, traveled extensively.
Mabel had a generous and caring spirit, she cherished time with family and friends and will be dearly missed by all.
