Bender, Lloyd
Memorial services for Lloyd Bender, 85, of Kalona, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Kalona Mennonite Church, Kalona, with Pastor Mick Murray and Chaplain David L. Yoder officiating. Private family burial will be held before the service. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona First Responders, Kalona Volunteer Fire Department and Iowa City Hospice.
Lloyd died Wednesday morning, August 25, 2010, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona, following a lengthy illness.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Kalona; four children and spouses, Derald (Marilyn) Bender of Kalona, Dwight (Jenelle) Bender of Kalona, Delwyn “Bud” Bender of Kalona, and Darlene (Ron) Gingerich of Riverside; one foster son, Mike (Emily) Ferguson of Kalona; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three foster granddaughters; one sister, Ruby (Owen) Miller of Oxford; and one brother-in-law, Paul Shetler of Greenwood, Del.
Preceding Lloyd in death were his parents; two brothers, Ivan and Monroe Bender; and two sisters, Dorothy Shetler and Mary Bender.
