Beltz, Robert G.
Robert G. Beltz, 69, of rural Amana, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford, with burial to follow at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Robert Gene Beltz was born July 14, 1940, in Iowa City, the son of Walter and M. “Alice” (Smith) Beltz. He married N. Joanne Begley on June 29, 1957, in Cedar Rapids. The couple and their family lived in the North Liberty area before moving to Amana in 1967, where they have since resided. Robert spent his working years as a roofer, self-employed and also working for a number of area contractors. He was a member of the Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford and a past member of the roofers union.
Robert enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, bird watching, mushrooming and caring for his “farm” animals. He loved his family, especially playing board games with any one of them, his favorite being aggravation.
His family includes his wife, Joanne; children, Judy Geiger (Willard) of Homestead, Terry Beltz (Suzanne) of Amana, Tracy Wray (Mike Brown) of North Liberty and Larry Beltz (Melanie) of Middle Amana; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Dvorak of Cedar Rapids, Thelma Simmons (Marvin) of Cedar Rapids and June White (Richard) of Chelsea; and brothers, Ronald Beltz (Annette) of Amana and Norman Beltz (Tina) of North Liberty.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory.
