Beltz, R. Dean
R. Dean Beltz, 65, of Riverview, Fla., formerly of the Cedar Rapids/North Liberty area, died Thursday, March 18, 2010, in Florida while stricken at work. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, concluding with sharing of memories and prayers. The resting of his soul will be at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty.
Raymond Dean Beltz was born Feb. 12, 1945, in Iowa City, the son of John and Lucinda (Smith) Beltz. He attended Iowa City schools, graduating from City High School. He enrolled in cooking classes which he later used in his career. He had worked for the Linn County Sheriff's Office, Linn County care facility, and for a number of years owned and operated his own restaurant in North Liberty, The Holding Co. Eleven years ago he moved to Florida, where he was employed by Ring Power Caterpillar. Here he was an honorary member of the Hillsbourgh Police Department. Dean enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing; loved to work on cars, especially his corvettes; and spending time with family and friends was important to him.
A special thanks to all his friends and co-workers at Ring Power in Florida for their support and prayers at this time, you were his “Florida Family.”
His family includes his siblings, Florene “Rene” Lloyd (Olin) of Iowa City, Betty Perry (Richard) of Lincoln, Neb., Shirley Beltz of Iowa City, Mavis Rossie of North Liberty, Dan Beltz (Karen Rickett) of Zephyr Hills, Fla., and Paul Beltz (Sandra Whitfield) of Oskaloosa; a number of cousins, including special ones, Ron Beltz, Richard Smith and James Onnen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Jack.
