Belew, Joel Devon
Joel Devon Belew, 42, of Jesup, died Sunday, July 9, 2012, at home.
He was born March 17, 1970, in Elkhart, Ind., the son of Joe and Madeline Hall Belew. He married Melanie Diedrich on Aug. 20, 2004, in Waterloo.
Joel was employed with TransAmerica in Cedar Rapids as an IT project manager. He worked for 20 years in communications in Cedar Rapids including MCI, Verizon and Rockwell Collins. He was a member of Mount Olive Lodge #17, A.G. Clark Consistory #68 in Cedar Rapids and Bashir Temple #156 in Waterloo.
Survivors include his wife, Melanie of Jesup; his mother, Madeline (Charles) Lumpkin of McLemoresville, Tenn.; his father, Joe (Pat) of Elkhart, Ind; five sons, Tyler Roby, Isaiah Belew, Benjamin Belew, Zachary Belew and Alexander Belew all at home; three daughters, Brittany Thornton of North Liberty, Sarah Roby of Waterloo and Makayla Belew at home; two sisters, Evangeline Johnson of Milan, Tenn., and Youlanda Belew of Indianapolis, Ind.; maternal grandmother, Gertude Luter of Cedar Rapids; six paternal aunts; six maternal aunts; a maternal uncle; five nieces; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by a son, Nathaniel Belew; maternal grandparents; David and Luella Hall; and paternal grandparents, Vinnie and I.B. Belew.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 7 p.m. Masonic service. Visitation also one hour before services Friday at the church.
