Behrens, Carol J.
Carol J. Behrens, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died June 4, 2011, at Northbrook Manor Care Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdayat Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving are her children, Jane Gallant and husband Gary of Sierra Vista, Ariz., David Behrens of Rockwell, Dwayne Behrens of Cedar Rapids and Mary Schmidt of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Nancy Palmer of Cedar Rapids, Sue Sullivan of Massachusetts and Judy McMann; grandchildren, Dwayne “Joey,” Jason, Michael, Justin, Melissa, Nick, Matthew, Cody, Robert, CJ and Jessica; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; sister, Sharon Tri; and brother, Gerald Lee Gardner.
Carol Jeanne Behrens was born March 11, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Gerald and Imogene Pettit. She was united in marriage to Harry Jack Behrens on Nov. 26, 1961, in Jewell, Iowa; they were later divorced and he preceded her in death in 1997. She was employed at several places throughout her life, including she and her husband managing the Union 76 Gas stations on 16th Avenue and East Post Road, Amana Refrigeration, Commercial Towel Service, Century Cab, Mercy Medical Center as a housekeeper, driving a school bus for disabled children and as a cashier for Amco System Parking at the airport.
She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, crafts and her two poodles, Cuddles and Fluffy. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a former member of the Eagles Club.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the memorial fund established in Carol's honor.
