Behrends, Virginia Lee

Virginia Lee Behrends, 81, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. John Louk of Salem United Methodist Church officiating. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the chapel after 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Survivors include three daughters, Virginia (Dale) Jones of Shueyville, Pamela (James) Whitman and Jo Ellen (James) Jacobus, and a son, Randy (Sue) Behrends, all of Cedar Rapids; two chosen daughters, Carol Sheneberger and Marlene (Ronald) Primrose, and three brothers, Melvin (Bernie) Dennis, Fred and Cecil Dennis, all of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Louise Baskerville and Geraldine Ewing; and a grandson, Jameson Jacobus.

Virginia was born Jan. 15, 1929, in North English, Iowa, to Charles and Leora Smith Dennis. She married the love of her life, Joseph Everett Behrends, on March 8, 1947, in Lawrence, Kan. He passed away in 1993. She was a cake decorator at the Wilson Avenue Hy-Vee for over 25 years, and a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
