Behnke, Larry G.
Larry G. Behnke, 75, of Marion, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at the home of his daughter. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Faith Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Albertson. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. There also will be visitation one hour before the service at the church. Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City.
Survivors include four children, Vicki (Stephan) Engler of Bettendorf, Lawrence Behnke of Marion, Kendra (Lloyd) Hummel of Marion and Scott Behnke of Marion; six grandchildren, Adam (Heather), Stephanie, Brian, Sarah, Nathan and Matea; five great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Celzie, Robbie, Randy and Ricky; a brother, Walter (Arlene) Behnke of Marion; and a sister, Marvel Foster of Pipestone, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra “Sue” Behnke; three brothers, Wilbur, Warren and Merlyn; and a sister, Loraine.
Larry was born May 31, 1938, the son of Ernest and Viola (Olson) Behnke in Hale. On June 13, 1959, he married Sandra “Sue” Behnke in Central City. She died July 14, 2000. Larry worked for Rockwell Collins as a truck driver for 33 years, retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, dancing and coffee at Hy-Vee and Country Kitchen.
Larry was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
A special thank-you to Mercy Medical Center, Hospice of Mercy and Home Choice, especially Carmen and Natascha, and all of the grandchildren who helped take care of Grandpa.
A memorial fund has been established in Larry's memory.
