Beckman, Margaret Louise
Margaret Louise Beckman, 90, of Bettendorf, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at The Fountains Assisted Living, Betttendorf. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Margaret was born Dec. 10, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Cilek) Miller. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Cedar Rapids and on April 3, 1941 married Wilbert James Beckman at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. For many years she worked in the food service department for the public school system. Margaret took great pride in her Czechoslovakian heritage. Family and friends were treated to her authentic Czech meals and greeted with the aroma of fresh Czech baking. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and her dogs. She loved all animals.
Margaret is survived by her two sons, James (Janell) Beckman of Lake Wales, Fla., and Steven (Jane) Beckman of Bettendorf; three grandchildren, Jay of Las Vegas, Nev., Lindsay (Josh) Skeen of Apex N.C., and Sara (Matt) Alexander of Fox Point, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Rory Jane Skeen, Finnegan Joshua Skeen and Henry Matthew Alexander; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert (12-23-2009); and five brothers.
Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of Scott County, 2802 West Central Park Ave., Davenport, IA 52804-2574 in Margaret's name or to the charity of choice.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the Fountains staff for their wonderful care of both Margaret and Wilbert over the past three years with a special thanks to the memory unit staff.
