Becker, Elsie M.
Elsie M. Becker, 90, of Olin, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at her home. A celebration of her life service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin, where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
Elsie May Ruppert was born May 5, 1920, in Iowa City, Iowa, to George L. and Elsie M. (Hertz) Ruppert Jr. She attended school in Iowa City. She married Forrest D. Becker on March 16, 1944, at First English Lutheran Church in Iowa City. He died Feb. 28, 2005. Elsie was a homemaker and worked with her husband on the farm and raised a lot of geese.
She was a very active member of the Olin United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Olin Westside Club and liked gardening and canning.
She is survived by three children, Helen (Gary) Skinner of Clarence, Richard (Nancy) Becker of Mount Vernon and Chuck (Cindy) Becker of Anamosa; three granddaughters, Jeanett (Brad) Torrens of Hertford, N.C., Chris (Mike) Riter of Norwalk, Iowa, and Tammy (Eric) Nehring of Mechanicsville; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgreat grandchildren; two brothers, George Ruppert and Robert (Della) Ruppert of Iowa City; and a brother-in-law, Luke Braxmeier of Rocky Mount, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one sister, Sarah.
Memorials may be given to the Olin United Methodist Church.
