Becker, Donald Lee
Donald Lee Becker, 75, of Guttenberg, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at his home, comforted with his wife by his side. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Shane Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg, and one hour before services Thursday at the church.
He was born July 22, 1936, in Clayton, Iowa, the son of John and Sylvia (Nuehring) Becker.
Don is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kay; one son, Kevin (Deb) Becker of Marion; two grandchildren, Kyle (Kristin) Becker and Katie (Kyle) Nelson; four great-grandchildren, AJ and Luke Becker, Toby and Parker Nelson; one sister, Esther McFarland of Reno, Nev.; one brother, Otto Becker of Tennessee; and many other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Vina Walke, Christ Becker, Wilma Mueller and Mildred Saeugling.
Don made countless friends during his years as a teacher and coach, and then as a small-business owner. Entertaining family and friends over a glass of homemade wine and a game of cards, which he always seemed to win, was a source of great joy. His 50+-year battle with multiple sclerosis was an inspiration to many.
Don so adored his wife, son and daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandsons. He will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to either Iowa Hospice, Hope Cancer Lodge at Mayo Clinic or the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.
