Beck, Susan Scroggin
Susan Scroggin Beck, 49, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from a brain aneurysm. Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Springville Presbyterian Church, where friends may call after 4 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Karen Downey Beals will officiate at the services. Services also will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 20, at the United Methodist Church in Maxwell, with interment in the Peoria Cemetery. The Rev. Jennifer Whitt will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for her youngest son, Levi.
Surviving are 3 sons, Michael (Rachel) Scroggin, West Branch, Jacob Scroggin, Marion, and Levi Beck, Central City; two grandchildren, Cadence and Elijah; her father, Paul Viers; three brothers, Michael (Sandy) Viers, Gregory (Janice) Viers and Steven “Bo” Viers, all of Maxwell; and a special friend, Mick Wade.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Roberta.
Susan Kay Viers was born Nov. 26, 1963, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Roberta Mohler Viers. She graduated from the Maxwell High School in 1982. She continued her education at Ellsworth College and Des Moines Area College, where she was accredited as a dental hygienist. Susan married Dodd Scroggin on Aug. 11, 1984, at the Maxwell Methodist Church. She worked at the Adventureland Inn and as a dental hygienist in Altoona. The couple moved to Hopkinton and later Worthington, Iowa and Susan worked for Dr. James. In 1991, the couple moved to Scotch Grove and Susan was a hygienist for Dr. Stingley. Susan and Dodd were divorced in 1993.
On Oct. 11, 2002, Susan married Don Beck. The couple lived near Central City and Susan worked for Dr. Deb Oldham. She also was the area coordinator for the iSmile program. This program brought dental care to children in need. She was currently working for Dr. Connie Miller in Marion.
Susan was very musical. She helped start the Joyful Noise Choir in Monticello and participated in the Springville Presbyterian Choir as well as the Ecumenical Choir in Springville. She was active in her sons' lives as a Tiger Cub leader, Booster Club worker and Sunday school teacher. Susan was a member of P.E.O. and a deacon in the Presbyterian Church.
