Beck, Richard D.
Richard D. Beck, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Dec. 18, 2009, in his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastors Kim Pagel and Tye Male of New Covenant Bible Church will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Vione; son, Lance Beck of Cedar Rapids and special friend, Janet Bartz of Walford; daughter, Lynnette Shirley of Andover, Kan.; sons, Kirk Beck and wife Benita of Cypress, Texas, and Grant Beck and wife Susan of Cedar Rapids; son, Mark Watts and wife Kathy of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a sister, Patricia Gardner and husband Ronald of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; and several extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Florence Beck.
Richard was born February 13, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He was married to Vione Peasley on July 29, 1989, in Cedar Rapids. He was employed for 22 years at Quaker Oats in the packaging department. He was a member of the NRA and New Covenant Bible Church. He enjoyed art, especially oil painting and portraiture. He also enjoyed the outdoors, staying busy, his beloved dog Maggie, and time spent with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the memorial fund established in Richard's honor.
