Becicka, Louis E.
Louis E. Becicka, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Silver Pines Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located 2121 Bowling St. SW with the Rev. Dr. W. Bramwell Harnish presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Czech National Cemetery.
Louis was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Emil and Emma (Vishek) Becicka. He married Evelyn Andrews of Troy Mills, on Oct. 10, 1952, in Cedar Rapids. Louis was an engineer assistant with Alliant Energy for over 31 years. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Belgium, France and Germany. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion. He liked to roller skate and ice skate in his younger years, fishing for catfish on the F Avenue Dam, playing poker and playing the slot machines at Riverside.
Louis is survived by his wife, Evelyn; grandchildren, Jessica and Katie Bohnhof of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Robert (Sasha) Becicka of Michigan, great-grandson, Nathaniel Becicka; and a nephew, Jerry (Bonnie) Becicka of Swisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas; a daughter, LuAnn Bohnhof; a brother, Joseph; and a nephew, David Becicka.
