Becicka, Frank 'Buzz' Jr.
Frank “Buzz” Becicka Jr., 76, of Cedar Rapids, passed away from a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, surrounded by his family. Celebration of Life gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at The Avacentre at Brosh Chapel, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Private family inurnment will be in Czech National Cemetery.
Frank was born April 6, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank G. and Florence R. (Wilson) Becicka. He married Delores Robertson in 1956, his high school sweetheart. They were married 56 years. Buzz graduated McKinley High School in 1955. He was noted for his basketball career and was the City's scoring champion his senior year. Buzz served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. Along with his wife, he owned and operated numerous businesses in the hotel industry in Iowa, Arizona and Texas. He worked for and retired from the City of Cedar Rapids in 1999. Buzz loved his family and his family was his first priority. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed the outdoors and hunting with his sons, and will always hold dear his “sugar plum.” Buzz will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
Frank is survived by his spouse, Delores Ann Becicka of Cedar Rapids; sons, Frank G. (Kim) Becicka of Ely and Mark A. (Leslie) Becicka of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Sherri K. (Ron) Bettmeng of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Chase G. (Anne) Becicka of Coralville, Mark (Paige) Becicka Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Jacob E. Becicka of Ely and Emily (Todd) McNabb of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Mary E. Kelsey of Cedar Rapids; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank G. and Florence R. Becicka; and his sister, Maxine Merta.
