Beasmore, Merle E. 'Buck'
Merle E. “Buck” Beasmore, 87, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon. Graveside services for Buck will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Andre Cemetery, rural Lisbon, with military honors. Arrangements by Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. There will be a reception at Gwen's Restaurant after the service.
Buck is survived by his stepchildren, Marcia Unruh of Mechanicsville, Steve Hansel of Center Point, Michael Parrott of Lisbon and Jon (Zoe) Parrott of Cedar Rapids; brother, Barney (Waneta) of Lisbon; one grandson, Mitchell Parrott of Cedar Rapids; and four nephews, Scott and Todd Jacobs, Brian and Bruce Beasmore.
Preceding Buck in death were his parents; wife, Beverly; brothers, Keith and Dean; sister, Wilma Jacobs; and nephews, Brad Beasmore and Doug Unruh.
Buck was born Aug. 21, 1924, in the Lisbon family home, the second child of Vern and Ida Nellie (Andre) Beasmore. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1942 and immediately joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Atlantic Theatre during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Cyclops Post 109, Lisbon. He married Beverly Joan Martin on Feb. 14, 1972. She died July 11, 2005. Buck retired as a forklift truck operator after many years from Collins Radio and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 1362, Cedar Rapids.
