Beard, Dorothy A.

Dorothy A. Beard, 73, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, June 27, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo, with inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty - Waychoff - Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also will be an hour before services Friday at the church.

She was born July 16, 1937, in Waterloo, daughter of Gerald J. and Kathryn M. (Smith) Bohan. She married Noel K. DeBerg on June 1, 1963, in Waterloo. He died Sept. 18, 1980. She married Charles Beard in 1986 in Waterloo. He died in May 2001.

Dorothy was a radiology technician at Schoitz Memorial Hospital, Family Practice, in Waterloo, and Allen Memorial Hospital, and most recently was employed in the office of Radiology Consultants of Iowa in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Atkins of Aplington; two granddaughters, Melanie Atkins of Aplington and Mary DeSerano of Pennsylvania; three brothers, Dennis (Judy) Bohan of Arvada, Colo., G. Francis (Karen) Bohan of Waterloo and Emmett (Catherine) Bohan of Broomfield, Colo.; and two sisters, Loretta (Tom) Stroben of Visalia, Calif., and Monica (Jerry) Hestekin of Brookfield, Wis.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth DeSerano.
