Bazyn, Dorothea June
Dorothea June Bazyn, 84, died at the Marshalltown Hospital from a heart attack on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013. There will be a funeral for her at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Chelsea United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine from 4 to 7 p.m. today, with family members present.
Dorothea was born on June 18, 1929, to Roy and Tillie (Pokorney) Ryan. She lived in Chelsea as a child, where she helped her father at the hardware store. After graduating from high school, she married William Bazyn and moved to his family's farm, several miles south of Chelsea. There she worked as a housewife and raised three children. She was a loving and devoted mother. Having grown up in the hardware store, she was a great help and advised on various projects on the farm.
Dorothea and William had a special love for making their place look beautiful. When they retired, they started doing more craft work, woodworking, painting cream cans, making Christmas and holiday decorations of all kinds taking them to various craft shows. William died in March 2002.
Dorothea was a longtime member and supporter of the Chelsea United Methodist Church where she was active in teaching and helping with such fundraisers as the pancake breakfast.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Barbara) Bazyn, Chelsea, Richard (Elgene) Bazyn, Henry, Ill. and Kathy (Lee) Havlik, Marshalltown; three grandchildren, Matthew (Stacy) Bazyn, Austin, Texas, Timothy (Raeanne) Bazyn, Chillicothe, Ill., and Laura (David) Reynolds, Naperville, Ill.; and six great-grandchildren, Hailey, Layna, Ryan, Abigail, Madeline and Zachary.
