Bauer, William 'Bill'
William “Bill” Bauer, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Katie Dawson. The family will greet friends one hour before services. Burial: Millersburg Cemetery, Millersburg, Iowa, at a later date.
Survivors include two sisters, Joan (John) Bouslog of Marion and Jan (Charles) Lehr of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Phil Bauer of Decatur, Ill.; a niece, Sue (Bill) Dawson; three nephews, Jim, Jeff (Shawn) and Scott (Angelia) Bouslog; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and two great-great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles, in infancy.
Bill was born July 29, 1936, the son of Vernon R. and Mildred E. (Pope) Bauer, in Millersburg, Iowa. Bill graduated from Millersburg High School in 1954 and attended the University of Northern Iowa for his undergraduate studies, graduating in 1959. He later received a master's degree from the University of Iowa. He taught special education at Washington, West Branch, and for many years in Cedar Rapids at McKinley and Harding grade schools.
Bill enjoyed being with people of all ages and attending family gatherings. His retirement years were spent playing golf and cards, watching University of Iowa basketball and football, Chicago Cubs baseball, and reading.
