Bauer, Jean E.
Jean E. Bauer, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2013, surrounded by her family. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 22, at New Covenant Bible Church, 3090 North Center Point Rd., Cedar Rapids, IA 52411.
Jean was born Dec. 31, 1920, in La Porte City, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Neva (Hudson) McChane. The youngest of four daughters, she grew up in La Porte City and graduated from La Porte City High School. Jean was united in marriage to Leo Bauer on Feb. 26, 1939. They moved to Marion in 1950.
Jean was a multiskilled and extremely talented woman who held a variety of positions in her community, from creating masterful candles for Linn County Co-op to being a sales leader for Shaklee for over 40 years.
She had a very deep faith and was extremely proud to be a long-standing and very active member of the New Covenant Bible Church. She was a member of the Pathfinders Class, Christian Women's Club, Wednesday Study Club and the Red Hats Society. Jean was the first woman to sit on the Linn-Mar school board. She enjoyed meeting people and forging lasting friendships. Jean loved to cook and took pride in preparing meals for her friends and family, especially in a time of need.
Jean is loved and survived by her three sons, Robert (Rhoda) of Cedar Rapids, David (Christine) of Marion and Rodney (Mary) of Prescott, Ariz.; grandchildren, Mark (Debbie) Jordan, John Bauer (Lisa Berry), Roger Bauer (Joanne Davis), Jason Bauer (Tamara Veenstra), Julie (Anthony) Garry, Carrie (Damon) Vickerman and Emily Bauer; and great-grandmother of Joshua and Sarah Jordan, Nathan and Megan Bauer, Patrick Bauer, Isabella Garry and Sadie Vickerman. Jean was a treasured and cherished aunt, cousin and friend of many.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her beloved husband, Leo; her three sisters, Thalia (Don) Cummings, Ruth (Robert) Fles and Margery (Otis) Clothier; her special friend, Galyn Peterson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Covenant Bible Church or St. Luke's Hospice.
