Batson, Lowell 'L.D.' Duane
Lowell “L.D.” Duane Batson, 78, of Marion, died Monday, June 27, 2011, at his home. Friends and family of Lowell are invited to gather from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion to celebrate his life, share fond memories, and hors d'oeuvres.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lois; his son, Thad Batson and his wife, Kim, and their children, Melissa Wolters and Zachary Batson; his son, Brett Batson and his wife, Lynn, and their children, Lauren Conley, Jillian Martin and Ariel Batson; his son, Dirk Batson; and his daughter, Echo Batson and her husband, Mike Ahart; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Pam Greiner.
Lowell was born June 3, 1933, in Princeton, Ill. Lowell served as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. On April 22, 1955, Lowell was united in marriage to Lois Nickel in Princeton. He earned his Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois. He most recently served as vice president/general manager of the Air Transport Division at Collins Radio/Rockwell International, retiring in 1990, after 30 years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established to benefit Dr. Chirantan Ghosh's new Oncology/Hematology Clinic in Cedar Rapids.
