Bastian (JR) Munnik, 69, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Williamsburg and Sheffield, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
A memorial service to celebrate his life is being planned for a later date. Cedar Memorial is assisting with arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Bev; children, Carrie (Rodney) Shifflett and their children, Ryan, Tayler and Olivia of Marion and Todd (Susan) Munnik and their children, Lillian and Mason of Cedar Falls; sisters, Angie Dannen of Sheffield and Shirley (Skip) Reynolds and Margaret Thompson, both of Mason City; and brother, Jerry Prokes of Cincinnati, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law.
Bastian James Munnik was born June 5, 1944, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Bastian and Geraldine (Orr) Munnik. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army. On Feb. 12, 1965, he married Beverly Engebretson in Sheffield, Iowa.
JR worked at Amana Refrigeration from 1968 until his retirement in 2004 as an engineering services manager. He was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, enjoyed fishing and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
