Bascom, Marilyn F.
Marilyn F. Bascom, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Bob Voels will officiate. Burial: 2 p.m. Monday at the Center Point Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; two daughters, Pam (Al) Rahn of Wasilla, Alaska and Dixie (Dave) Frank of Springville; three sons, Mark (DeeDee) Haynes of San Clemente, Calif., Norville (LeAnn) Haynes of Humboldt and Kevin (Karmen) of Center Point; one stepson, Scott (Lori) Bascom of Marion; stepdaughter, Teresa (Doug) Chase of Rolla, Mo.; one brother, Robert (Claudia) Webber of Sturgis, Mich.; and one sister, Clarece (Jim) Wanderscheid of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Merlin; a brother, Richard Webber; and a sister, Kate Shimp.
Marilyn was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Waterloo, the daughter of Walter and Martha Potter Webber. She married Merlin Haynes in 1950. He passed away in 1986. She later married William F. Bascom on Oct. 24, 1987, in Cedar Rapids. Marilyn worked in physical therapy at St. Luke's Hospital for 17 years, retiring in 1989. She was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Past Matron of Eastern Star Malta Chapter and Past Queen of Eucharistic Temple.
Marilyn enjoyed bowling, traveling through the United States as well as a trip overseas to Israel.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church.
