Barry Steve Houk, Jr., 58, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 5:58 a.m. Dec. 27, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
He was born Sept. 15, 1964 ,in Ottumwa to Barry Steve and Doris Rigler Houk Sr.
A 1982 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Barry served in the U.S. Army. He had worked at Excel, JBS, Pella Windows and Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids.
Barry was a member of the Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed NASCAR, bald eagles, listening to music, cooking and riding his Harley. Barry was a Dallas Cowboys and L.A. Dodgers fan. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. Barry never knew a stranger and left everyone he met with a smile.
Surviving are his children, Brad (Brittany) Houk of Fairfield, Barry Houk of Corydon and Nikki Houk of Creston; stepson, Brian Katzartones; six grandchildren; his brothers, Bobby (Bobbi Jo) Houk, Mike Wilt, Rusty Houk (Christine Baker), and Lane Allen Rigler; sister, Sherry (Michael) Young; stepbrothers, Tracy Rigler and Stacy Rigler; stepsister, Shirley Mae Rigler; and stepmom, Nancy Houk.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Cooper Houk; and a sister, Terri Pinnix.
Visitation will be open at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Reece Funeral Home. The service will be livestreamed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
