Barron, Jon L.
Jon L. Barron, 68, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center. Celebration of Life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. In honor of Jon, the family requests everyone wear their favorite college attire.
Jon was born June 22, 1944, in Ottumwa, the son of Corby and Alice (Thomson) Barron. He worked at Rockwell Goss Graphics Systems for 27 years, and later enjoyed being a courtesy shuttle driver for Allen / Lithia Motors.
Jon was an avid Hawkeye fan and also an avid Cardinal fan. He looked forward to his and Linda's Hawkeye football parties every year.
Jon is survived by his wife of 19 years, Linda (Schroeder) Barron; and his baby doll, Ginger. Jon and Linda were married Sept. 18, 1993, in Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by his two daughters, Tammy (Steve) Vangen of Marion and Susan (Aaron) Lamp of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Ashley and Kaden; three sisters, Evelyn (Richard) Criner of Boone, Faira (Donald) King of Eddyville and Carolyn (Gene) Ryken of Shiloh, Ill.; one brother, Ed Barron of Millersburg; three stepchildren, Tina (Sean) Vogt of Watkins, Brian (Jen) Hughes of Center Point and Trisha (Lamel) Brandon of Cedar Rapids; seven stepgrandchildren, Tarrah, Brandon, Tegan, Skyelar, Brianna, James and Lamel Jr.; as well as his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ralph and Rita Schroeder; and sister-in-law, Rita Barron.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society, Linda Club, or to his family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mercy Medical Center ICU for their loving and compassionate care of Jon.
