Barrette, Eugene 'Gene' Lee
Eugene “Gene” Lee Barrette, 65, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Gene was born Sept. 14, 1947, in Norfolk, Neb. He married Myra Spores Oct. 11, 1968, in Cedar Rapids. Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked at North Star Steel in Wilton for many years as a millman, until his retirement. Gene was a car and motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and the time spent with his family.
Gene is survived by his wife, Myra; two sons, Gene (Theresa) Barrette of Marion and Dave (Amy) Barrette of Coggon; his 14 grandchildren; his brothers, Steve Barrette (Susan) of Thornton, Colo. and Bob (Ronda) McFall of Swanton, Neb.; his sister, Pamela (Dan) Goodell of Shellsburg; and sister-in-law, Sheryl McFall of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded into death by his parents and grandparents.
