Barrett, William 'Bill'
William “Bill” Barrett, 64, of Cedar Rapids, went to heaven with his family by his side, Friday, March 2, 2012. Bill's family will greet friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Valley View Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids. Bill's funeral will be 5:30 p.m. at the church by the Pastor Phil Foster and Pastor Keith Pitts, with military honors to follow.
He is survived by his wife, Jill Buenneke Barrett; three sons, LaVance, Lenny and Ashkelon; a daughter, Freedom; his mother, Bernice; four grandchildren, Solomon, Kaitlynn, Phoenix and Jordan; four brothers, Sam (Benita), Dean, Alston and Tony (Deb); five sisters, Sarah, Betty, Patty, Becky and Clara; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bill in death were his mother, Shalie (Dave); his father, Robert; sisters, Rebecca and Lavater; brothers, Willie Lee, Monroe, Jonas and Dave Jr.
Bill was born Feb. 22, 1948, in Tchula, Miss., the son of Shalie (Dave) Barrett and Robert (Bernice) Campbell. He married Jill Buenneke in St. Luke's Hospital after a five bypass surgery. Bill was a master mechanic and retired from D.C. Taylor of Cedar Rapids. He was a member of Valley View Baptist Church where he volunteered in many capacities.
Food is to be provided after the service.
A memorial fund in Bill's honor is established.
