Barker, Terry Lee
Terry Lee Barker, 60, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly Saturday, June 18, 2011. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church by Pastor Dan Wiersema. Burial: Palo Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Teahen Funeral Home and again after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Terry is survived by his wife, Marijo; four children, Travis (Julie) Barker of Kearney, Mo., Monica Clay, Thomas (Kimberly McLaud) Barker and Lisa (Richard) Zerba, all of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; brother, David Barker of New Brunswick, Canada; sister, Carol Manos of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Laura Barker; and faithful friend and companion, Toby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; two half-brothers, Elmer Divis Jr. and Pat Wheeler; a half-sister, Lavonne Wood; brother-in-law, Tom Manos; and sister-in-law, Judy Barker.
Terry was born June 29, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Thomas and Mary Ann (Boyer) Barker. He married Marijo Bland on March 12, 1976, in Cedar Rapids. Terry worked as an ironworker for 28 years with the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Local 89. He was very proud of his job and of the brotherhood of the union.
Terry's favorite pastime was driving through the countryside. He loved to take his dog Toby out for a “run.” Terry enjoyed watching NASCAR, playing cards and tinkering in his garage. He had an extraordinary artistic talent of sketching pictures. Terry loved spending time with his family and friends, and was always willing to help others.
You left behind some aching hearts, that loved you most sincere. We never shall and never will, forget you Father dear.
