Barger, James
James Barger, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died at St. Luke's Hospital on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit one hour before the service.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Edie; children, Steven (Verlee) Terwilliger of Valencia, Calif., Mark Terwilliger of Eagle Creek, Ore., Barbara (Dan) Smith of Solon, Penny (John) Barnts of Marion, Jack Barger and Joe (Christy) Barger, all of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Lundt and Barbara Anderson, both of Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Maxine Keefe and Marian Zearley; granddaughter, Merrick Ham; and great-grandchild, Cecilia McKinley.
Jim was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Edgewood, to Joseph A. and Jennie Barger. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Jim received his Master's degree, taught and then became principal at Prairie Schools. He married Edie Terwilliger on Dec. 28, 1963. In his early years, Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be remembered as having a great sense of humor and an unabiding love for his wife, children and grandchildren.
