Bare, Roberta May-Ree
Roberta May-Ree Bare, 86, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Marion, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Elim Home in Princeton, Minn. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by the Rev. Del Bear. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Monday. Burial: Spencer's Grove Cemetery, Walker. Military honors by Marion American Legion Post 298.
Survivors include her children, Carl (Teresa) Bare of Galt, Calif., Rebecca (Lorence) Thomsen of Princeton, Minn., and Barbara (Raymond) Taber of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Jason, Carla and Michael Bare, Trevor (Michelle) Perrin, Stephanie (Peter) Martin, Phillip (Brenna) Perrin, Anastasia (John) Davis and Raymond C. (Megan Jo) Taber; and three great-grandchildren, Brittni, Taylor and Axel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents; two brothers; and a sister.
Roberta was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Marion, the daughter of George D. and Fretta M. (Hessner) Eckhart. She served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. On Feb. 24, 1951, Roberta was united in marriage to George W. Bare in Marion. He died April 16, 2009. Roberta worked as a cashier at an automobile dealership for many years.
She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Marion American Legion Post 298, DAU Auxiliary, WIBC, and the Midwest Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Association.
