Barbara Zimmerman, 81, died Monday, October 6, 2025, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 Wednesday morning, October 15, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Monticello with interment in the St. John Cemetery. Pastor Tim Eckert will officiate at the services. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. at the church. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello has taken Barbara and her family into their care.
Surviving are her son Bill Jr. and wife Susie, 3 grandchildren, Blake, Sam, and Skylar, sister-in-law, Gaile Kenney, her brother-in-law, Jim (Pat) Zimmerman, Monticello, 2 sisters-in-law, Joan Feeney, Jacksboro, Tenn., Edna (Dick) Engrav, Copperas Cove, Texas, and many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, her husband, a brother, Barry and sister Margaret.
Barbara Jean Kenney was born July 13, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Faye and Jeanette Dorn Kenney. She graduated from the Minnesota School of the Deaf in Faribault. Barbara married William Zimmerman on August 24, 1968, in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Monticello, Iowa, where Barbara worked at Lewis Systems and Polo Plastics. Barb and Bill Sr. helped establish Word of God Lutheran Church for the Deaf in Cedar Rapids and were longtime members of St. John Lutheran Church in Monticello.
Barb found joy in attending International Deaf Association Conventions, nurturing her garden, preserving food through canning, spending cherished time with loved ones, drinking coffee with 2 stevia packets, and unwinding with her favorite soap operas.
