Barbara “Sue” Newman, 78, of Iowa City passed away on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at home.
Sue was born April 20, 1945, in Pensacola, Fla., the daughter of John C. and Barbara J. (McClung) Newman.
Sue was a 1963 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and attended the University of Iowa for two years. She then began her career at the University of Iowa Hospitals where she worked for 36 years, retiring in 2002. Sue worked as a lab assistant in the immunology lab for 17 years and then worked as a dispatcher for University Air Care for 19 years. Sue also managed several apartment buildings in Coralville, Iowa, for many years.
Sue was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
Her family includes her brother Sam and his wife Ruth Newman of Loudon, Tenn.; her niece and nephew Jessica and Joel Newman; as well as great-nephews Dylan and Mason Andrzejewski and their families. Sue was preceded in death by her longtime partner Dan Dreckman, her parents and grandparents.
As per Sue’s wish, her body has been cremated and there will be no services.
