BARBARA JEAN (HOWARD) SMITH

Barbara Jean (Howard) Smith, 84, passed away at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa, on Sunday, March 27, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Saturday, April 16, from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. with Minister Russell E. Dobbins officiating.
Barbara was born July 10, 1937, in Milan, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Porter and Ophelia (Nesbitt) Howard. She worked at Quaker Oats for many years until her retirement. She loved to garden, fish, play slots, and watch Westerns, football and basketball on TV. Barbara loved spending time with her children and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish Barbara's memory are her children, John Dawson, Denise Arnold, Sherry Leach, Mark (Anna) Smith and Caroline (Russell) Dobbins; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and her siblings, Johnnie Howard of Milwaukee, Wis., and Flora Greer of Atwood, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Craig L. Smith; and her siblings, AJ Howard, Rozellion Lipscumb, Rosalie Dawson, James Felix Howard and Mary Ophelia Williams.
All flowers may be delivered to Cedar Memorial. A memorial fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at the Oldorf Hospice House for their love and support they showed to Barbara while she was in their care.
