Barbara J. Roberts, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at her home. Services at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Ron Connerly will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include four daughters, Claudia (Bill) Dritlein of Olathe, Kan., Carole (Randy) Northway of Cedar Rapids, Lynne (Tim) Davis of Marion and Amy (Kevin) Spangelo of Cedar Rapids. She also is survived by 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larkin; a son, John; two grandsons, Nick Northway and Kevin Farwell; one brother; and two sisters.
Barbara was born on Oct. 4, 1926, in Mahaska County, the daughter of John and Gyneth Noe Chitwood. After high school, she attended the nursing program at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. She married Larkin M. Roberts on Dec. 31, 1948, in Chicago. Larkin passed away in 1988.
Barbara was a homemaker and a teacher's aide in the Linn-Mar School District for over 11 years. She was a member of New Beginnings Church. Barbara enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing cards, gardening and was renowned for her famous fried chicken and delicious pies. Her greatest joy however was the time spent with her beloved family and many friends. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established in Barbara's name.
