Barbara L. Matousek, 69, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a courageous battle with cancer.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Barbara was born June 10, 1947, to O. Edwin and MaryGrace Wiley Matousek in Newton, Iowa. She lived in Mason City and Oelwein during her childhood, before her parents settled in Cedar Rapids. There she graduated from Jefferson High School, followed by Iowa State University, with a degree in computer science.
She was employed by various companies in Ohio and Texas in the field of computer science before retiring in 2005. Later she began working for the HEB Grocery Stores, where she was employed at the time of her death.
Barb married Anthony Lucido in 1970, and they lived in Columbus, Ohio, College Station, Texas, and Houston during their marriage. The couple later divorced, but remained good friends.
She enjoyed cooking, music, art, and many other things. She was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Nassau Bay, Texas. She adored her cat, Murphy, who was rescued during Hurricane Ike. Barb held a special place for France, where she had lived earlier in her life.
Barb will be missed by her sister, Judy Matousek, and Judy's dog, Molly, of Hiawatha; several cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, ex-husband and many other family members.
