Barbara Marie Wallig, 70, of Marion, died Sunday, July 24, 2022, due to injuries from a car accident. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home by Penny Ackerman. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, and on Monday at the funeral home after
10 a.m.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Brad) Leichsenring of Shellsburg; two sons, Chad Balvanz of Marion and Jason (Patty) Balvanz of Cedar Rapids; two stepchildren, Jami (Mark) LeTourneau of West Chapel, Fla., and Shauna (David) Thames of Harrisburg, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Noah, Robert, Courtney, Tyler, Emma, Jackie, Morgan and Brooklynn; two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Ace; brother, Denny (Mary) Osterkamp; four sisters, Betty (Elmer)Taken, Lucille Shingledecker, Linda St. John and Belva (Lindsey) German; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 2010; four brothers, Willis, Donald, Ray and Roy Osterkamp; and three sisters, Mary Krotz, Christina Keeney and Evelyn Greiser.
Barbara was born on April 8, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Herman and Ruth Michel Osterkamp and attended Tipton High School. On June 12, 1993, she married James Wallig in Cedar Rapids. Barbara worked in packaging at the Quaker Oats Co. for 35 years retiring in 2008.
Barbara loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed tending to the flowers that Jim planted, going to monthly retiree breakfasts and attending Chicago Cubs baseball games. Barbara was a wonderful person and will be missed by her family and friends.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
