BARBARA JEAN LINK
Iowa City
Barbara Jean Link finished her fight with cancer and found peace on Sunday, May 6, 2018.
Barb was born on Independence Day, July 4, 1931, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the first born of Ernest and Kathryn Miller Mungoven. She attended public schools there, graduating from Ottumwa High with the Class of 1948. After spending a year in Cedar Falls at Iowa State Teachers College, she returned home and entered the workforce at John Morrell and Co., where she met her future husband, Paul. They were married Aug. 4, 1951, at Sacred Heart Church in Ottumwa.
Paul was transferred to the Iowa City area in 1953. After raising her two children, Barb returned to the workforce in 1968 as the secretary to the ticket manager at the University of Iowa Athletics Department. In 1972, Paul was transferred to St. Paul and they resided in Edina, Minn., where Barb was the assistant to the president of the University of Minnesota. Paul retired in 1975, and they returned to their home in Iowa City. Barb finished her career as the assistant to the dean of the College of Medicine.
Barb had a passion for interior design and was a talented seamstress and quilter. She cherished her piano and cooking for her large holiday gatherings.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula McAndrew (Mark); and her son, Kevin (Luanne): five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Charles MacLearn) and Kathryn Toomire; and brother, William (Shirley) Mungoven.
Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Iowa City Hospice would be appreciated.
