Barbara Lebsock of Cedar Rapids passed away Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021.
Barb was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Dr. Milton and Mary Grow. She was the eldest of her two siblings and spent her younger years in Geneva, Ill. She excelled in swimming and was a member of the Chicago Swim Club, participating in the Olympic trials in 1956. Barb attended Northwestern University in Evanston, where she was affiliated with Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After moving to Cedar Rapids, she received her B.A. degree from Coe College. She retired in 1997 after teaching for 28 years in the Cedar Rapids Community School District.
Barb enjoyed gardening, animals, all of nature, music, travelling and family. She was a volunteer at Wickiup Hill and Prairie Woods Franciscan Center.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Susan Lebsock-McKinnon (Vance III) of Robins, Iowa; son, David Lebsock of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Jim (Suzie) Grow of Landrum, S.C.; grandchildren, RaeAnnon (Chad) Kramer, Austin (Adam) Fairlie, Katie McKinnon (Dr. Troy Rhodes), Zachary (Beth) Fairlie, Heather (Austin) Trotter, Karissima Vanessa and David Lebsock; and nine great-grandchildren.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lawrence Grow.
Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A private family service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or the Prairie Woods Franciscan Center in Barb's name.
