Barbara L Garms, 89, of Volga, Iowa, passed away on March 25, 2022, at Elkader Care Center of natural causes.
Barb was born on March 2, 1933, on the family farm near Volga, Iowa, the daughter of William W and Gladys E. (Cook) Wenger. She attended Volga Schools graduating in 1950. She held several administrative positions and finished her career as a 25-year employee of Central Schools in Elkader, Iowa, as secretary to the principal. Many friendships were made with both employees and students at Central School during her time there. Barb was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Volga, Iowa.
Barb is survived by two sons, William (Kristy) Garms of Monona, Iowa, and John (Jan) Garms of Elkader, Ipwa; her daughter, Mary Lou Garms of Garnavillo, Iowa; a sister, Marvel Seeland of Elkader, Iowa; grandchildren, Tim (Timea) Garms, Rebecca (Greg) Bovee, Michael Garms, Jamie Garms, Jenna (Jesse) Duvall and Jason Garms; and great-grandchildren, Andrew and Nicholas Garms, Violet, Abram and Mira Cummings, Alanna Garms and Kyran Duvall.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James, in 1975; a sister, Marilyn Wolf; and brothers, William Wenger, Clyde Wenger and an infant brother, Carroll.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to St Paul Lutheran Church in Volga; or Central Community Schools Dollars for Scholars in Elkader.
A special thanks to the staff at Kingston Court Assisted Living/Elkader Care Center, where Barb was a resident the past 24 years.
