Barbara Kay Steger, 76, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Dubuque, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, after battling chronic illness.
She born Nov. 17, 1945, to Donald Steger (Swede) and Henrietta Mueller (Hank) in Dubuque. She graduated in 1964 from Dubuque Senior High School. After graduation, she worked in a factory sewing children's clothing. In her early 20s, she moved to Cedar Rapids with her best friend, to work at Rockwell Collins, and worked on the communications systems for the Apollo missions. She worked there for 46 years, retiring in 2011. She was a gifted seamstress, crafter and bingo player. She lost her last beloved cat in 2020, being 21 years old. She could be found bartending on the weekends or out dancing with friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father and sister, Sandra Linden.
Surviving are her brother, Donald (Jeanette) Steger of Dubuque; sister, Deborah Schmitz of Marion; nephews, Eli (Cindy) Linden of Davenport and Christopher (Amy) Schmitz of Cedar Rapids; and nieces, Tabatha Lyons of Dubuque and Sharilyn (Dennis) Bent of Oceanside, Calif.
A Celebration of Life will be held later.
Many heartfelt thanks to Hiawatha Care Center Hospice of Mercy. These angels helped Barb transition in a dignified manor.
