BARBARA JEAN (JACOBSON) FOSSEL

Barbara went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on Jan. 1, 2022. Barbara was born Feb. 7, 1935, at the home of her parents, Theoroy J. and Hellen E. (Hill) Jacobson. She was baptized in the Christian faith at St. Petri Evangelical Lutheran church in Story City Iowa on March 31, 1935. She made her public confession of faith on May 14, 1950, as a member of the St. Petri Confirmation class of 1950 shepherded by the Rev. Selmer T. Nelson. Barbara remained a lifelong member of St Petri and her faithful participation in the mission of the congregation. Barbara attended Center school in Story City thru fifth grade and upon closing attended Story City Public school until graduation in 1953. On July 10, 1955, she was united in marriage with Allen Eugene Fossel, son of Walter and Agnes Fossel of Story City, the double wedding included her sister Thelma and Gerald Lura of Nevada. The wedding took place at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. The couples were attended by their maids of honor plus bridesmaids, best men, groomsmen, ushers; flower girl's and ring bearers. Barbara and Allen honeymooned in Minnesota. Barbara and Allen moved to the Cedar Rapids area in 1968. Barbara worked at the Cedar Rapids Country Club until she landed her dream job in banking at Merchants National Bank where she eventually retired.
Barbara is survived by her brother, John Jacobson of Arizona; and her sister, Ruth Ann Brown of Florida; her four children, Judy (David) Novotny of Solon, Debra (Gary) Pegump of Atkins, Larry Fossel of Cedar Rapids and Pamela Fossel of Hiawatha; four grandchildren, Jeremy Boots, Brett Fossel, Dacodah Fossel and Kaitlyn Pegump; and six great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Allen; and four brothers and one sister.
A private graveside service for the family is planned by Soderstrum Funeral Home Story City, Iowa, with Pastor Rick Summerhays presiding.
The family would like to thank the staff at Corridor Crossings and Mercy Hospice for their commitment and care to the quality of end of life.
